LED Specifications - An Overview
LED specifications provide vital technical information allowing you to mount and power your LEDs to maximize output and to maximize efficiency resulting in a prolonged life.
We carry an extensive selection of Super Bright Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) in several styles. Our LEDs are available in a full rainbow of colors, sizes along with special application LEDs such as Ultraviolet (UV) and Infrared (IR).
Our LED Specifications cover each model of LED we carry, including 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 10mm along with high-power LEDs.
|Super bright 3mm LEDs are extremely bright. They are suitable for use in your projects, illuminations, headlamps, spotlights, car lighting, or models. They go anywhere where you need low power, high-intensity reliable light, or indication. They go easily into a breadboard and will add that extra zing to your project.|
3mm are the little-brother to the most popular 5mm LED family.
|The 4.8mm straw hat LED lens has a much more even light distribution pattern than the typical hemisphere lens. The straw hat lens causes the LED to disperse light like an incandescent bulb.|
Like other LEDs, they have standard voltage and forward current requirements similar to comparable 3mm and 5mm LEDs.

The 5mm T1 3/4 LED is the most common size of LED available.
|The 8mm LED is a specially designed LED module with a wide (140 degree or more) viewing angle. Besides, the 8mm LED has a forward current of 150ma (for a power dissipation of 0.5 watts). Very useful in high-intensity applications where a lower power 5mm or 10mm LED will not be sufficient.|
|10mm LEDs are similar to the 5mm model in power requirements. Yet, due to the enormous built-on lens, generate a much higher intensity (brighter) light beam, which has light up an entire area with a single LED.|
|5mm Piranha LEDs are some of the brightest LEDs for their size. They are also known as Superflux LEDs, which have a large lens to produce a wide-angle beam. Great for custom installation in which a wide angled light can is produced. Using the 5mm Piranha LED will give you outstanding results, and offers a unique lighting approach to any of your projects.|
|High power STAR LEDs are an excellent choice for illuminating more substantial spaces. Available in 1 watt, 3 watt and 5 watt models make the possibilities for this LED endless. A popular choice in cabinet down lighting and other accent lighting. High power STAR LEDs offer an extremely high light output in an energy-efficient way. The LED comes mounted on to special PCB Star that acts to draw heat away from the LED, therefore extending its operational life.|
|The LED Bead is the building-block of high-power LED modules. Used in STAR LEDs and other LED panels, they are an excellent choice allowing you to assemble your own panels at a fraction of the cost of prebuilt units.|
LED Beads are available in 1 and 3-watt models in assorted colors and specialty models for ultraviolet and infrared applications.
LEDs are a versatile semiconductor with many attributes that make them perfect for most applications. Their features include:

White LEDs are perfect for replacing inefficient incandescent bulbs in night lights, flashlights, path lights, task lights, and exit signs. Their versatility makes them a natural for use in alternate energy (solar) applications, automotive, aeronautic and water-based vehicles.
Cautions When Working with LEDs
- LEDs produce a focused light source, and extra care should is necessary to protect your eyes
- LEDs are semiconductor devices, they are sensitive to static charges
